Nutrition Services

Nutrition Services include programs and resources aimed at improving health and well-being through nutrition counseling and education.  The Nutrition Clinic is led by a Registered Dietitian who is an integral part of your health care team.   

Education and Counseling  

Medical Nutrition Therapy:  60-minute Initial Appointment 

A therapeutic approach to treating medical conditions through individualized nutrition plans.  This specialized nutrition counseling addresses specific health conditions to identify nutritional deficiencies or excesses, provide evidenced-based recommendations on healthy eating patterns and weight management support.   

Topics commonly covered in individual nutrition appointments: 

  • Diabetes management 

  • Fitness Enhancement Program requirements 

  • Heart health/cholesterol/blood pressure 

  • Vegan/Vegetarian and Plant-based Diets 

  • Weight management 

  • Pregnancy nutrition 

  • Gestational diabetes 

  • Childhood obesity 

  • Celiac disease 

  • Food allergies/intolerances 

  • Digestive Health 

  • Assistance with MD prescribed diets 

Individual appointments can be made through referral from PCM, IDC or self-referral.

Classes Offered   

Classes will be advertised as offered. 

Weight Management  

Offered on a monthly basis.  Topics vary each month: anti-inflammatory eating, gut health, Mediterranean diet philosophy,  nutrition facts label, grocery shopping and meal planning.   

Nutrition Basics 

45-minute lecture with 30-minute hands-on component for nutrition and diet fundamentals. 
Topics include: macronutrients, balancing meals, developing a healthy eating pattern, meal planning resources, label reading. 
Offered quarterly. 

Pregnancy Nutrition 

Learn about healthy eating during pregnancy to support the needs of mother and baby.   

Mindful Eating 

30-minute lecture discussing how mood can affect dietary intake and diet recommendations for supporting a healthy mindset. 

Performance Nutrition 

Learn the basics on how to fuel for your workout, endurance sport or upcoming competition. Recreational athletes, fitness enthusiasts and competitive athletes welcome. 

Healthy Eating on a Budget 

In conjunction with Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, learn how to develop a grocery budget and make healthy, budget friendly choices when grocery shopping. 

Shipshape 

  • 4-8-week course for meeting FEP requirements (offered as needed per request).

  • Naval Hospital Rota Health Promotion & Wellness Department coordinates program and provides compliance tracking with CFL. 

  • RD assists with teaching and facilitating nutrition topics. 

Community Outreach 

  • AFN - Dietitian's Dish on Wellness Wednesday, 8 – 8:30 a.m. 

  • Coastline - monthly Health Promotions articles to include nutrition information. 

  • The dietitian works in collaboration with Health Promotions during resource and health fairs.  

  • Community classes are available by request.
